Who Is Classed As A Scouser — The History Of The Nickname For Liverpudlians
Liverpool has expanded from 7 Streets to a large and bustling City Region that consists of 6 Boroughs.
A Scouser originally was anyone that worked in the Port of Liverpool that would eat the imported dish, 'Lobscouse'.
The nickname, Scouser, has now broadly increased it's definition outside of the confines of the Port of Liverpool Docklands such as the Pier Head, Dingle, Birkenhead, Bootle, Wallasey amd Seaforth, and explained to be inclusive of anyone from across the Liverpool City Region that wishes to identify with the name.
As explained in the book, Famous Liverpudlian's, it is defined by anyone that stays and spends a considerable amount of time in Liverpool.
Whilst there is debate as to if people from the Wirral are classed as scouser, they would indeed be included within the bounds of the name, though, despite this, the newer nickname 'wool' which has been attributed to people from the rest of the Liverpool City Region, including those from the Wirral, will likely stick at least for now as it is used by so many people when talking about people not from the City of Liverpool.
