Warrington Hongkongers CIC Organises Lunar New Year Celebrations With Support From Warrington Council & Warrington BID Company To Welcome The Year Of The Horse To The Town

Warrington town centre will mark the Lunar New Year on Sunday the 15th of February in Time Square.
The celebrations is organised by Warrington Hongkongers CIC (WHKERS CIC) with the support of Warrington Council and the Warrington Business Improvement District (BID).

It’s a great opportunity for families and the wider community to enjoy cultural activities in a welcoming and safe setting.” - Councillor Hitesh Patel, Cabinet Member for Economy, Growth and Quality Work.
It will mark the start of the Year of the Horse, a symbol of strength, independence, and forward momentum in Chinese culture.
Running from 10am to 4pm in Time Square, with an opening ceremony at 10:30am, the day will offer a full programme of cultural activities, performances, and family-friendly experiences in the town centre.

It’s a great opportunity for families and the wider community to enjoy cultural activities in a welcoming and safe setting.”
Visitors can enjoy traditional stalls offering arts and crafts, Chinese toys and gifts, and street food. Classic Hong Kong carnival games will be available alongside cultural experiences such as Fai Chun, Chinese calligraphy writing, and fortune telling. Families can take part in children’s activities, including face painting and circus skills.
Andrea Morely, Warrington BID Project Manager, said: “Lunar New Year is now a well-established part of Warrington’s events calendar. Supporting celebrations like this helps bring people into the town centre and gives residents and visitors the chance to experience something different.”
A wishing tree, standing nearly two and a half metres tall, will allow visitors to display their hopes and messages for the year ahead. Music and performances will take place throughout the day, including a traditional Lion Dance, alongside other cultural showcases organised by Warrington Hongkongers CIC.
