Here's some fantastic facts about the Liverpool City Region that you may not have known otherwise. There may be some of them you may be aware of, however, others that you had no clue about.

  1. The Titanic was registered at the Port of Liverpool.

  2. Liverpool has the largest Chinese Arch in the world outside of China, located in the China Town district of Liverpool City Centre.

  3. The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine was the first of its kind in the UK.

  4. James Street Station and Hamilton Square Station are the oldest deep level train stations in the world. Cities underground rail like the London Underground was just below surface level, unlike the groundbreaking Liverpool innovations. The City still has the first and oldest deep-level underground train system in the world, the network links from James Street Station and Hamilton Square Station.

  5. The Royal Liver Building, the icon for the Liverpool City Region, stands at 98.2 m (322 ft) tall.

  6. The Royal Liver Building was the tallest building in Europe from its completion in 1911 to 1934 and was the tallest building in the UK from 1911 to 1961.

  7. Beetham Tower west is currently the tallest skyscraper in Liverpool, standing at 134 m (440 ft), it has locally been nicknamed 'The Bullet'.

  8. Liverpool has the oldest Chinese community in Europe.

  11. The Liverpool Bay Area has the largest wind turbine farm in Europe.

  12. The River Mersey is one of the most powerful rivers in the UK.

  13. The Liverpool City Region was the first city in the world to introduce trams.
