Street Food Weekend Returns To Grosvenor Park This Month In Chester

Chester's amazing food and drink scene will be celebrated in an unmissable Street Food Weekend at Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre this month.


The event, which takes place on Saturday and Sunday, 28-29 June, will officially launch Storyhouse’s 2025 Grosvenor Park season. Entry is free.


Soak up the summer vibes from 12noon to 7pm on both days with a fantastic selection of food and drink, along with live music, all in the magical surroundings of the open-air festival site.


A host of Chester businesses will showcase the best of the city’s culinary community, offering moreish foodie feasts, wonderful wine tastings and sweet treats.


The Sandbar Seafood Shack celebrates the best fresh and tasty seafood chosen from bespoke local suppliers and made with passion and care.


Chester Market favourite Nice Bites will offer visitors a range of tempting homemade American-style burgers, hotdogs and sides – all made to its own unique recipes, and the city’s artisan micro bakery Kookaburra, which is renowned for its handcrafted Aussie bakes and cruffins, promises a variety of mouthwatering sweet options.


Parkgate institution Chows Eating House crosses the Dee with its Chows Street Food, delivering a mixture of classic and contemporary Chinese cuisine and the fresh catch taste of its Parkgate Fish & Chips sister business.


And the weekend will also feature a brilliant range of flavours to appeal to all the family from the ever-popular Cheshire Farm Ice Cream.

They will be joined by charming Chester wine bar Paysan, which is renowned for its selection of carefully chosen wines, beers and accompanying snacks, and Northgate Street’s recently opened Planaterra which will also bring the party to the park with comfort food as well as brilliantly bold flavours and artisanal sips.


The Kitchen at Storyhouse will also be on hand in the park with a delicious taste of summer for festivalgoers.


The Street Food Weekend launches this year’s Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre festival with the main stage season getting underway on Friday, 4 July with a return to Grosvenor Park for Jane Austen’s beloved classic Pride and Prejudice, celebrating the 250th anniversary of Austen’s birth.


The production will then be joined on Friday, 18 July by a new Chester-set live stage version of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, written especially for Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre by Molly Taylor and directed by Ellie Hurt. Both shows run until the 31st of August 2025.


Young families are invited to embark on an enchanting adventure in the park with Alice in Wonderland walkabout theatre experience from the 25th July to 30th August.


The Grosvenor Park festival site includes a tepee bar, seating areas, fresh wood-fired pizzas, a barbecue, craft beers and frozen cocktails.


Following the Street Food Weekend, a programme of other events over July and August includes comedy nights, murder mystery evenings, children’s theatre, yoga and mindfulness, pup-friendly activities and a Mad Hatter tea party.

Storyhouse Chief Executive, Annabel Turpin, said, today: “Our Street Food weekend in Grosvenor Park was a huge success last summer, so I’m delighted we’re able to welcome everyone back to the festival site for a second year of fantastic and creative culinary treats.


She added: “There’s a wealth of wonderful independent operators in Chester who together are creating a vibrant and exciting food and drink scene, and we have assembled a really interesting and diverse line-up of vendors who are coming to share their own specialities with our visitors.


Annabel added: “With live music on site too I can promise a great start to our 2025 Grosvenor Park season.”


Planaterra’s Joe Dunn, said: “The Planaterra team has been working on some tasty pie and mash combos, and we look forward to feeding some happy faces. We all pray for sun!”


Michael O’Shaughnessy of Chows Street Food, said: “Chows Street Food is a fusion of two award-winning local favourites – Chows Eating House and Parkgate Fish & Chips.


Michael added: “We’ve combined the best of both to create bold, vibrant street food with comforting classics. All our award-winning food is made fresh from scratch – never frozen or pre-bought – with gluten-free options also available.”
