Last night, the historic inner quay of Liverpool’s Royal Albert Dock was transformed into a giant open-air gallery, officially launching a Summer-long celebration to mark the iconic landmark’s 180th Anniversary.

At 9:45pm, a digital projection was mapped across the grand brickwork façade of the Grade I Listed Dock Building that homes the Maritime Museum.

The Liverpudlian previously covered that The Royal Albert Dock will enjoy more than a month-long experience, taking place from the 30th of July and throughout August into September, with a curated retrospective light projection to celebrate its 180th Birthday.

Curated by acclaimed cultural photographer Mark McNulty, the stunning visual installation brought the dock’s vibrant musical, nightlife, and maritime history since the 1980s back to life under the sky.

The launch night also marks the official start of a major community storytelling campaign, inviting the public to become part of the dock’s living history.

Members of the public are being asked to dig out and submit their own personal photographs of the dock across the decades, from nostalgic family outings in the '80s and '90s to modern-day selfies under the iconic colonnades.

Exactly 180 of these community memories will be selected to feature in a grand finale public projection on Thursday the 24th of September, and they will then preserved forever in a digital memory book.

The Mark McNulty “Dock Short Lates” projection will continue to run nightly across the inner quay throughout August, from 9:45pm to 11:00pm, and is completely free for the public to attend.
