CITY OF LIVERPOOL, LIVERPOOL CITY REGION.
Kym Marsh & Lisa Faulkner Star In 'Single White Female'

We were invited to review ‘Single White Female’ at the Liverpool Playhouse, which proved to be a masterclass in character development.
A modernised interpretation of John Lutz’s 1990 thriller novel set in the present-day information age, where digital technologies infiltrate almost every aspect of our lives. The production was an excellently foreboding and unsettling watch.
The production was visually excellent. From the Mancunian skyscrapers peeking through the window to their high-rise apartment, conveying a vibrant, lived-in space with clearly poured-over attention to detail. From the teatowels stuffed into the kitchen cupboard handles to the cracks in the ceiling.
The use of non-diegetic sound effects (that the characters couldn’t hear) was blended into the storytelling so well that it was almost unnoticeable. With the cast using natural projection (without microphones), the performance was really grounded, with all dialogue articulated clearly.
With the theatre production differing enough from the original ‘SWF Seeks Same’ book and the ‘Single White Female’ film, this interpretation will keep theatregoers and fans of the source material entertained.
If this crime thriller sounds like it's something you would enjoy, it is most definitely worth noticing as much as possible in each scene as the story unfolds. It will make the post-theatre discussions all the more enjoyable as you remember all of the interactions, the transition songs, and the subtle foreshadowing that takes place throughout.
Joining Kym Marsh (Hedy) and Lisa Faulkner (Allie) on stage are Andro as Graham, Jonny McGarrity as Sam and Amy Snudden as Bella. Understudies are Francesca McBride (Bella), Patrick McHugh (Graham and Sam) and Anna Ruben (Hedy and Allie).
Directed by Gordon Greenberg (Heart of Rock and Roll - Broadway, Guys & Dolls - West End, The Baker’s Wife - Menier, NYC), with Set and Costume Design by Morgan Large, Lighting by Jason Taylor, Sound and Composition by Max Pappenheim, and from the Producer of the hit stage adaptation of The Girl on the Train.

A thoroughly wince and shiver-inducing experience that keeps you invested throughout the show. The first stageplay of 'Single White Female' enjoys a suspenseful 4 Liver Birds from The Liverpudlian.

'Single White Female' is coming to The Liverpool Playhouse from Tuesday the 28th of April to Saturday the 2nd of May. Ticket prices range from £17 to £47 and are available at The Liverpool Playhouse Theatre website.
