The Liverpool City Region Is A Major City In The UK & One Of The Most Populous Corners Of The Country, Here Is The Population For Each Borough In The City Region, Alongside Some Interesting Facts About Each Area

Liverpool City Region

  • The Liverpool City Region has a population of 1,533,350.

The majority of the population is centred on the river with the most densely populated areas being the Region's inner suburbs in the City of Liverpool and the Boroughs of Wirral, Sefton and Knowsley that spill out from the cultural, financial and historic epicentre that is Liverpool City Centre.


The Liverpool City Region is made up of six compact and densely populated boroughs in the North West of England in the UK. The six boroughs of the Liverpool City Region include:

  1. City of Liverpool: City Centre, West Derby, Old Swan, Tuebrook, Anfield.

  2. Borough of Wirral: Wallasey, Prenton, Tranmere, Rock Ferry, Bromborough, Oxton.

  3. Borough of Sefton: Bootle, Crosby, Aintree, Litherland, Formby.

  4. Borough of Halton: Runcorn, Widnes, Hale Village.

  5. Borough of St. Helens: Rainhill, Haydock, Rainford, Billingne, Newton-Le-Willows.

  6. Borough of Knowsley: Kirkby, Whiston, Prescot.

The Liverpool City Region has gradually been coming together and forming over the course of the 2010's as part of Central Government's plans for devolution. This means that the people of Liverpool are able to


With the formation of the Liverpool City Region comes the city's first Metropolitan Mayor, this is the first step in the recognition of the significance and undeniable importance of the city's surrounding boroughs.


City of Liverpool

  • The City of Liverpool has a population of 496,784.


Borough of Wirral

  • Wirral has a population of 323,266.

The Borough of Wirral has the second largest population in the Liverpool City Region. It includes ares such as Tranmere, Wallasey, Prenton, Heswall, Bromborough and Eastham.


Borough of Sefton

  • Sefton has a population of 275,562.


Borough of Halton

  • Halton has a population of 129,410.

The Borough of Halton is an outer borough in the Liverpool City Region.


Borough of St. Helens

  • St. Helens has a population of 180,049.


Borough of Knowsley

  • Knowsley has a population of 149,571.
