LIVERPOOL CITY REGION.
During This Dry Eye Awareness Month, Throughout July, Independent Local Opticians, Batty & Dexter, Are Encouraging The Public To Seek Support With The Condition Many Take For Granted

An independent local opticians firm, Batty and Dexter, based in Aintree and Hunts Cross in the Liverpool City Region is raising awareness of a common eye condition that can have a huge impact on daily life for many across the Region and beyond.
Burning, watery, or gritty eyes are often dismissed as an unavoidable part of modern life, but a local independent opticians is encouraging people not to suffer in silence during Dry Eye Awareness Month.
Dry eye is a condition that affects one in three adults across the UK and occurs when the eyes do not produce enough tears, or when the tears evaporate too quickly. Symptoms can include sore, itchy, watery, red, or blurred eyes, which can have a significant impact on day-to-day life.
In support of Dry Eye Awareness Month, Karen Crawford at Batty & Dexter Opticians in Liverpool is encouraging people experiencing ongoing symptoms to seek professional advice rather than relying solely on over-the-counter eye drops.
Practice Manager, Karen Crawford, explained that many people are surprised to learn that dry eye is a long-term condition which can often be effectively managed with the right diagnosis and treatment, Karen said: "Many people assume dry eye is just something they have to put up with, but that simply isn't the case. While occasional irritation is normal, persistent symptoms shouldn't be ignored, particularly if they're affecting your comfort, work, or quality of life."
She added: "We're all spending more time looking at digital screens, working in air-conditioned environments, and wearing contact lenses, all of which can contribute to dry eye symptoms. The good news is that there are now many different ways we can help manage the condition once we've identified the underlying cause."
Karen further advises that taking regular breaks from screens, staying well hydrated, and remembering to blink fully can all help reduce symptoms. Following the 20-20-20 rule (looking 20 feet into the distance for 20 seconds every 20 minutes) can also help reduce eye strain and encourage more natural blinking.
To support those suffering from dry eye in and around Liverpool, Batty & Dexter Opticians offers comprehensive dry eye assessments at their practice to identify the underlying cause of symptoms and recommend personalised treatment plans, which may include tailored advice, specialist therapies, and clinically recommended products.

Karen added: "No two cases of dry eye are exactly the same, which is why it's so important to understand what's causing the problem rather than simply treating the symptoms. With the right support, many people experience a significant improvement in both their comfort and their quality of life."
