Hoylake's Sri Lankan Gem, The Hut, Offers Unique Dishes Guests Travel Miles To Enjoy

Hoylake's Sri Lankan gem, The Hut, is celebrating two years of bringing authentic Ceylon cuisine to Wirral. Located on Market Street and open Tues-Sun from 5pm, the charming little restaurant has received many 5 star reviews — with people travelling from far and wide to sample their intriguing and truly unique dishes.
The Hut is the loving creation of husband and wife team Gayan and Shanika, who moved to Wirral with their three children in 2021, and together they’ve introduced Wirral diners to the taste and flavours of Sri Lanka. Food is prepared using fresh ingredients and spices are shipped from the fields of Sri Lanka by Shanika’s father, whilst she uses recipes passed down from her late mother.
Whether you’re looking for something mild or something spicy, The Hut has a dish for everyone. Devilled Corner has been a big hit amongst those who like spicy dishes — a delicious dish that packs a punch, with succulent meat marinated in a fiery blend of spices. Their Colombo style Nasi Goreng is also a popular pick — fried rice with a mixture of carrots, chicken and prawn, served with a fried egg and chilli paste.
Beach Combo is another dish that you won’t find anywhere else for miles — Casava wrapped and baked in banana leaf with coconut. Meanwhile, The Hut offers a range of mouthwatering curries like nothing you’ve ever tasted in an Indian or Bangladeshi restaurant. For dessert, enjoy something unique such as the pancakes with a sweet filling and to drink check out their Mango Lassi and range of Sri Lankan beers.
Reviews of The Hut have been glowing since opening in 2023, with some people travelling from as far away as Lancashire and The Midlands in search of something different and divine. Husband and wife team Gayan and Shanika work long hours with day jobs, running the restaurant and looking after their children, but the feedback received makes it all worthwhile.
One customer recently said: “Totally blown away by this place. I can honestly say that this is some of the best food I have eaten in a long time. Waitress took the time to read us through the menu and helped to choose our dishes. It was fabulous. Five stars from us!”
Another said: “We had a fabulous meal at the Hut last week. The food is superb, the taste is amazing! The owner is very friendly and passionate about the food they serve, and is ready to offer advice without being pushy. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, just a great place for a nice evening with friends.”
