Since opening its doors four years ago, No. 9 Bar and Kitchen, based in Cherry Lane in the Walton area, has already enjoyed huge success. After their original launch, owners Allan and Gemma Bresnahan, who are both from Walton, extended the premises to include a larger, family-friendly restaurant so that local families and guests from around the could enjoy its relaxed atmosphere and great food from breakfasts to lunches and tea.

Now that No. 9 is well established, it has also developed a fine reputation for supporting a variety of local community groups, individuals and teams. This summer, they are hosting free family fun days every Wednesday, which have already been a huge hit. Including a mini disco, crafts and plenty of fun, No. 9 has already played host to some VIP visitors, including SpongeBob, Batman, Spiderman and the LOL Dolls, and is currently preparing for their next guests, Mario and Luigi, on Wednesday 16th August. The events are casual and carefree, and families can attend with no need to book in advance.

'Since we began our journey, we always wanted to be more than just a bar and restaurant, but firstly without us being a great success as a business we would not be able to engage in all of the community projects we are now involved in.' - Gemma Bresnahan, Co-Owner of No. 9 Bar and Kitchen.

No. 9 Bar and Kitchen began its sponsorship activities very soon after its initial launch, and has continued the tradition. The team have now concentrated considerable resources into sponsoring grassroots football. Included in this stable is the No. 9 Little Kickers, an under-5’s team who play in the Walton Kirkdale League and train in Maiden Lane. There is also an adult No. 9 football team who play in the Business Houses League, and the business also sponsors Brazil Girls FC, as well as Holy Rosary Panthers Under 8’s.

On Saturday 5th August, No. 9 hosted an amazing football day devoted to junior teams at The Pitz in Kirkdale, which is a specialist facility hosting small-sided football. As well as matches, the children and their families attended No. 9 for their own dedicated after party, featuring mascots, raffles and an inflatable ‘Beat The Goalie’ competition.

This has highlighted a season of successful teams in a wide range of age groups, who have all benefited from the backing of No. 9. The children all received video messages from local sporting heroes including Liverpool Football Club legend Robbie Fowler, Paddy The Baddy, and DJs Rossie from Greatest Hits and Steve Weaver of InDemand Radio. The Football Association also kindly donated medals and trophies for the occasion, and the players from No. 9 were sponsored by NA Rendering and North West Chauffeurs.

'Everyone here on the team looks forward to a busy Summer ahead and we hope that any family who hears about everything we are providing feels free to attend one of our events, and also gets involved in signing up to our football teams. We are really proud of everything we have achieved so far both as a business, and as a community hub - and we still have more to come!' - Gemma Bresnahan, Co-Owner of No. 9 Bar and Kitchen.

Gemma Bresnahan, Co-Owner of No. 9 Bar and Kitchen, said: 'Since we began our journey, we always wanted to be more than just a bar and restaurant, but firstly without us being a great success as a business we would not be able to engage in all of the community projects we are now involved in.'

She said: 'The team at No. 9 have already worked so hard - our extensive menu brings great value to our customers, and we love supporting local artists with our live music events. We have also enjoyed real success hosting private parties and events.'

Gemma added: 'Over time we have come to realise that attracting families has become a major part of who we are as a business. This summer in particular our weekly free family events have been so well attended and enjoyed. We know that for so many families, all over the city, a day out with children can be a really expensive business, and so the aim of our Wednesdays is to give them a fantastic experience, where they can relax in an informal setting, where behind-the-scenes we remain highly organised and professional, so that we can attract the very best VIP appearances for them.'

She added: 'Our football sponsorship programme is something close to our hearts. As a city which is devoted to the sport, we are delighted to enable children to start their journey under the age of 5, and then support teams of all demographics. We know that being involved in a team sport is so much more than just about playing football - although of course our kids and adult players love it! It is a chance for them to meet, make new friends, stay active and also boost their mental health. For their families, it also gives them a chance to get involved as a community.'

She said: 'To see our young footballers queuing up for their trophies and medals last Saturday was a magical moment not just for them but also for their family members and loved ones who had come to watch and support.'

Gemma said: 'We could not do any of this without a successful bar and restaurant, and the fact that our customers return, regularly, to enjoy everything we have to offer. New guests are always a part of this success, and our word-of-mouth reputation means we are always busy.'

She added: 'I would like to personally thank everyone who supports our sponsorship programmes and all of the noted sporting and media personalities who have sent up their own personal messages of support. The No. 9 FC management team of Kevin Ellison and Anthony Murray pulled out all of the stops on the day, and Mark Horlick from the F.A. has proved to be a valuable source of advice.'

Gemma concluded: 'Everyone here on the team looks forward to a busy Summer ahead and we hope that any family who hears about everything we are providing feels free to attend one of our events, and also gets involved in signing up to our football teams. We are really proud of everything we have achieved so far both as a business, and as a community hub - and we still have more to come!'
