Liverpool is a global pioneer with achievements spanning a multitude of industries. Due to the maritime nature of the City, it was at the cutting edge of new technologies.
The Liverpool City Region was the first city in the world to introduce trams.
The first Region to have a public park. On a visit to Liverpool, an American architect visited Birkenhead Park
Oriel Chambers on Water Street in Liverpool City Centre is the first skyscraper in the world. With out the Liverpudlian innovations taking place in Liverpool, American cities like Chicago and New York would look very different.
Cities underground rail like the London Underground was just below surface level, unlike the groundbreaking Liverpool innovations. The City still has the first and oldest deep-level underground train system in the world, the network links from James Street Station and Hamilton Square Station.
