TLC Gourmet is proud to announce its successful collaboration with The City of Liverpool College, supporting the next generation of talented chefs with an exclusive event featuring a menu designed by acclaimed chef and TLC Gourmet Director, Thomas Leatherbarrow.

This special evening took place at the College’s award-winning restaurant, on Thursday night (14th November 2024).

The event showcased the skills of 12 talented students enrolled on the Diploma in Professional Cookery Level 3 Course. Under Thomas Leatherbarrow’s expert guidance, these young chefs were given the opportunity to work with an industry leader to create a high-end, themed dining experience for the public, with a focus on advanced patisserie techniques and methodologies.

TLC Gourmet believes that it is essential to provide opportunities for students to gain exposure to the world of professional hospitality, and this event was a perfect example of how the industry can help shape the careers of aspiring chefs. By working directly with students, Thomas Leatherbarrow and TLC Gourmet aim to provide both practical learning experiences and invaluable insights into the high-end patisserie world.

“We believe in giving back to the industry by sharing knowledge, skills, and passion with those just starting out,” said Thomas Leatherbarrow, Director of TLC Gourmet. “As chefs, we are always learning, and part of that process is learning how to pass on what we’ve gained to those who want to follow in our footsteps. My team and I are excited to work with these students and help inspire them to pursue their culinary dreams.”

This is the first collaboration between TLC Gourmet and The City of Liverpool College, though the company has supported similar events at other leading colleges, including South Cheshire College, Colchester Institute, and University College Birmingham. These events provide students with a unique opportunity to interact closely with industry professionals in a more intimate, hands-on environment—where they can ask questions and learn about career pathways in a way that larger public events cannot offer.

Ian Jaundoo (FCGC, MCGB, DoE), Executive Chef at the college’s Academy Restaurant was instrumental in making this collaboration possible. He said: “ I have known Thomas for several years now and we have judged together at various regional and national culinary competitions. It is obvious that TLC Gourmet with Thomas leading, is a passionate advocate of high standards where classical and modern patisserie technique is concerned. He and his team of chefs (all talented in their own right) are a credit to the company and to the Hospitality industry in general. This event is something that our students will take a great deal of inspiration from and encourage them to be inquisitive and creative where patisserie is concerned”

TLC Gourmet’s commitment to supporting the educational side of the hospitality industry reflects a dedication to developing the future stars of the culinary world. Through events like this, the company hopes to continue building relationships with educational institutions and inspire a new generation of chefs to reach their full potential.
