The Zanzibar Club Set To Relocate Into Another Seel Street Venue After Upcoming Closure Of Musical Heritage Site In Liverpool City Centre

The Zanzibar Club, located in 43 Seel Street, will close its doors on Saturday the 1st of November this year.
The Zanzibar band performances will remain in The East Village neighbourhood, and move further up the road. Reopening in the basement of 80-82 Seel Street. The underground space of Heebie Jeebies, where The Zanzibar Club will relocate to, is currently home to beloved venue EBGBs that is also seen locally as a space for up-and-coming bands to develop their talents and has even been a venue for Liverpool Sound City.
A new name for the relocating live music basement venue, beneath Heebee Jeebies will soon be announced. It is currently unknown if this will bring an end to EBGBs in its current form, or if it will share the large basement space and play host to both clubs.
The basement at Heebies has been a popular spot in the city for live music 2 to 3 nights a week already. The Club are saying investment will now be made into making this underground venue accessible across more nights each week.
The Zanzibar Club itself, located at 43 Seel Street, is going to be refurbished. More information will be announced in the near future regarding the future use of the famed Club which has contributed to Liverpool's flourishing music scene for over 30 years, and has welcomed acts such as The Libertines, The Coral, The Zutons Temples, Pete Wylie, Circa Waves.
Zanzibar closed in 2020 after the devastating economic effects of the pandemic. However a local Liverpool independent stepped in to ensure that The Zanzibar Club could continue to contribute to the highly-praised musical value to the City’s ever evolving and historic musical and cultural heritage.
As has been previously widely publicised, a large number of grassroots venues have closed over the past 4-5 years and the night-time economy is completely different now to the way it was 10, 15 or even 20 years ago.
From redevelopments and changes to drinking habits, to the cost of living crisis currently taking place across the country. The UK night-time economy has evolved and businesses need to evolve with it to now survive.
Liverpool has a unique musical heritage and reputation around the globe, and The Zanzibar Club has been an integral part of that for over thirty years.
