CONCERT SQUARE, ROPEWALKS, CITY OF LIVERPOOL, LIVERPOOL CITY REGION.
One Of Liverpool's Favourite Irish Bars Turns 10

McCooleys, in the lively Concert Square area of the city, celebrates its 10th anniversary this month. A venue that changes from morning until night and has become a firm favourite for students, football fans, hungry workmen and many more.
The 12,000 square foot site is set in an old warehouse with dark wood vibes and touches of the emerald isles and has really become a staple on the Square.
The old warehouse was once home to The Office and Ruby Sky before McCooleys opened its doors in 2015. In an era where many pubs, bars, restaurants and clubs are closing daily, the Irish-themed venue has really stood the test of time.
“McCooleys... laid-back warehouse feel has made it a really popular place for both locals and visitors in the city.” - Phil Gillespie, Head of Marketing for Pub Invest Group.
McCooley's in Concert Square, which opens from 8am daily, is a popular spot in Liverpool, known for its affordable food and drinks, live sports coverage, pool tables and student-friendly atmosphere, making it a go-to location for student nights and social gatherings in the heart of the city's entertainment district. With over 20 HD televisions and 4 projector screens, the venue is always packed for the big games and UFC/Boxing events.
Concert Square has really evolved since McCooleys opened and the area has seen many changes including more news sites opening, more food offerings and a retractable roof across the square, for when the weather takes a turn.
Phil Gillespie, Head of Marketing for Pub Invest Group, said: “Since opening back in 2015, McCooleys has become a firm favourite in Concert Square. The venue evolves throughout the day. From local workers popping in for breakfast at 8am, to students calling in midday for games of pool, to the go-to venue for all sports and live music later in the day. McCooleys offers a wallet-friendly range of pub foods as well as an extensive well well-priced range of beers, and its laid-back warehouse feel has made it a really popular place for both locals and visitors in the city.”
He said: “The venue helped cement its student links with several long-standing sponsorship deals with JMU and Liverpool University and their teams ranging from Rugby to Football.”
Phil added: “Food was not really a thing on Concert Square back in 2015 and McCooleys helped change that. Even now in these harsh cost of living times you can still get a full Irish Breakfast for only £7.50 or a mixed sharing spice box for only £10. This is key to what McCooleys is all about.”
Two years after the Concert Square site opened, McCooley's opened a second site across the city centre on Temple Court in 2017, just off Mathew Street, and this has become a firm favourite in the Cavern Quarter.
“Food was not really a thing on Concert Square back in 2015 and McCooleys helped change that.” - Phil Gillespie, Head of Marketing for Pub Invest Group.
Phil, said: “We’ll continue doing what we’ve been doing so well and what has proven so popular across the city. McCooleys is the place to be for any night out, it’s been at the centre of the major events for the city, such as the Champions League celebrations and Eurovision, and I'm pretty sure it’s going to stay that way! We’ll continue to build on what we have and make sure it’s around for another 10 years to come.”
