A group of nine children from Downholland Haskayne CE Primary School spent the afternoon at Bellway’s Lydiate Gate development, situated in the Liverpool City Region's Borough of Sefton, for an educational, yet particularly innovative site visit.

Located on Liverpool Road, Lydiate Gate comprises a selection of two, three, four and five bedroom homes, incorporating a range of semi-detached and detached house types, making it the perfect development for a school trip with so much housing variety to see.

Andy Sharpe, Bellway’s Site Manager at Lydiate Gate, was thrilled to welcome the pupils to the development. During the visit, Andy hosted a walking tour of the site, showcasing houses at different stages of build, from the foundation of a concrete slab to the frame being in place and the roof in situ, making it watertight. He also introduced the children to various trades.

“I was keen to bring children to Lydiate Gate to learn more about construction, health and safety on live building sites and the various roles involved in housebuilding, so was delighted when Bellway offered to host a tour of the development.” - David Swindells, Headteacher at Downholland Haskayne CE Primary School.

The highlight of the site visit for the pupils, aged between 6 and 11, was the brick laying lesson, with each of the nine children trying their hand at this particular trade.
